Cleaning Turbo Intakes
      #116676 - 01/22/06 10:25 PM

I would clean the leaves and twigs from the front air intakes of the C2 at the end of every fall. Always a bunch of stuff in there. How does one clean leaves, etc., from the rear turbo air intakes? Has anyone found a stranger placing their hand/arm into the turbo intakes? On Friday, I came out of the dealer's shop into their rear lot where my turbo was parked to find a curious soul placing his hand and most of his arm into my passanger side air intake. This seems like a potential vandalism problem of someone placing a rag or something down in the intake. I would have thought there would have been a grill in there to prevent objects from getting in whether on their own or from being placed in there?

I know what you mean about leaves and debri in the front air intakes. It seems to be more of an issue with the 997 than it was with my 996. I have an extension on my shop vac that has picked up all kinds of junk. I don't understand why they just didn't put a nice mesh grill in the openings. I've received the same comments from the people at the dealership. Having people stick their arms in the turbo fender intake......well, that's another story??

There are after market sellers that have mesh grills for the front 996/997 intakes but I haven't seen anything for the rear fender turbo intakes. I can see some misguided person stuffing something in one of those intakes which can probably cause some server damage to the motor.

Ed - I had the same concern when I got my Turbo. I wondered about what kind of debris had entered the intake(s)...lots of leaves in the Fall down here, or even what someone may have tossed down there. When I changed my plugs I had to remove the rear bumper and intercoolers, giving me a chance to finally see what might be on top of the intercoolers. Answer? Not a thing. Either run a small hose attached to a shop vac down there, or pull your rear bumper and intercoolers once every one or two years...it's not a big job.

Thanks for the suggestions, Dock:

I have a nice min-vac with a flexible hose that will fit down there nicely.
