New owner with some questions
      #133878 - 11/20/07 12:36 PM

Just bought an 04 GT3 and want to change the oil. The Oil filter kit Just had the rubber O ring and not the crush washers for the oil tank and engine case. What size washers do I need to get and what are the torque specs for the 15mm case plug, 19mm tank plug, and the filter housing?

I'm also wanting to remove the hard upper seat backs to have them painted. Any instructions on how they come off and what they are made of? These are the std. GT3 seats, not the racing buckets.

I can't answer your oil filter, washer and torque spec questions as I have my car serviced by Porsche.

Regarding the seat backs:

I assume you are speaking of the OEM sports seats that have the hard plastic shells. I may still have instructions on removal and replacement of the seat parts from the service manual that you can follow. If you want them (and if I can find them) send me a private message from the Board, MY Home, with your email address and I'll scan and send you a pdf file.

Removing the seat backs requires that all the seat back leather covers, foam, center backrest cushion, etc., are first removed. The center backrest cushion comes out first and then numerous snap clamps have to be removed to get the leather covers off. The backrest itself is held on by a number of screws and lastly by snaps integral to the backrest shell that will be apparent when all the covers and cushions are first removed. I rebuilt my power seats with the sports seat backrests, but never having done it before, even with the instructions which are somewhat vague, it took me about 3 hours to remove each seat from the car and disassemble it and the about the same to reassemble and install it back into the car, being careful not to damage the leather or any of the parts.

You may want to consider purchasing the two sport seat shells as individual parts and have them painted and then reassemble the seats with the new backrests so that you will not be without seats as long. Also, I beleive the shells you have have (soft-look) paint finish on them that may have to be stripped before applying the exterior grade paint. You can contact eric@bumperplugs.com about the painting and he may also be able to do the whole job for you if you want to ship him your seats and pay for the work.
