That's what I suggested it is but Tim says it happens at different rpms. I wonder if he doesn't mean different gears and speeds. The variocam bump up or lag when you come off the gas will always happen at the same rpm point (3500 rpm +/-, regardless of the gear. You don't notive it when your drive aggressively but if your driving on a congested road and constantly shifting up and down between 4th and 5th gear, and between 3000 and 4000 rpms, you notice it. I wish the variocan bum could be programmed to be smoother.

It can. I don't have this problem with my EVO programming.

I have a metallic rattle sound in my 2004 Turbo when RPMs are below 1500. The dealer says its the intermediate shaft and not an issue. I researched the literature before buying the turbo and never a mention of this noise. I have heard the noise in other turbos; some quieter ,some louder. It drives me "bonkers" Anyone else have the same experience??

Sorry to say I have not heard this sound but then I am rarely at 1500 rpm for any length of time. Perhaps your lagging the motor and that is what your hearing?

Thanks for the reassurance. I forgot to mention that the engine is in neutral and at idle. Most noticible after warmup when the revs reduce to idle. Does anyone know the function of the intermediate shaft and where its located?? Also, I am interested in obtaining the maintenance manual for this car. I dont think I need the whole set. Any suggestions for sources??

I felt this same type of jerking under acc/decel in a 03 996TT I test drove while searching for a car. I assumed it was a engine/trans mount issue or a suspension bushing or link that was loose. It definately felt like something was shifting. Is this similar?

If you are doing a normal acceleration/deceleration through ~3000 rpm you shouldn't notice the Variocam.

Exactly, it's only when you're hovering around that range (3k rpms) and your foot gets heavy and you slowly go up a few thousand rpms does it really become annoying.
Try and think of it as a different kind of "speed alert".
