OK, let's check my assumptions first of all. It's my understanding that it's completely "normal" for a Turbo to burn through a quart of oil every 800 - 1200 miles, right?
So far, for me, that is NOT the case and it's got me a little weirded out. I have put on about 3k miles since I've purchased the car in late Sept 05 and I have only added 1 quart. I wish I could remember exactly when that was but it has only dropped one bar since then.
And yes, I know you all are going to tell me to run it harder! But I guess I'm making another assumption here but it would seem to me that triple digit runs from time to time would warrant "running it hard".
Any comments / suggestions / observations? Am I extremely lucky or what? Thanks.

Consider yourself lucky. Most 911 motors do use oil. My first 997 would use half quart every 2500 mi. or so. My current 997 has used half quart in 8K mi. I guess it is just a tighter engine. I remember the old air cooled days when a quart every 800 miles was considered "normal". Consider yourself fortunate. Especially considering the light weight "sewing machine" oil they recomend for thse new engines.

Actually, running triple digit speeds is very easy on that car, unless you get there in a hurry (full boost and redline shifts), otherwise, this car cruises at 120mph in 6th gear like it's going to the corner store

Grant,
Trust me .... I've been getting there in a BIG hurry! I will try a little harder though.
That is really why I'm so surprised at the lack of oil consumption. Not really complaining ... just curious.

Russ - Where's you oil quantity right now? If your car was "full" of oil when you bought it, and you put a quart in at 1500 miles, then you should be getting low again.

Dock,
The oil level was very low when I bought it which shocked me so I filled it up the next morning before leaving Florida (late Sept). The reading is currently down 2 bars (or 1 below the Full line). I don't recall putting any more oil in since then now that I think about it. Of course senility may be setting in but I don't believe so.
I went out and ran it hard again on Saturday and the oil level is still just down 2 bars. When it finally drops another bar I will record the mileage and record when it drops to the 4 bar.

About the best I've heard of is around 2500-3000 miles between quarts, so maybe you're going to set a new record.
I wait until I have 1-2 bars left above the minimum mark before adding one full quart of oil. For city driving this is between 1000-1500 miles depending on how hard I drive the car. If a majority of the miles are highway cruising miles, it's 1300-1800 miles between quarts.

OK Dock/Grant,
I'm going to post this so it's recorded ... finally dropped 3 total bars from top of guage and I'm at 6732 miles. This way I can measure some consumption at least.
Since I would classify Cincinnati driving as mostly highway (our rush hour isn't all that bad compared to most of you) that could be playing a big part. Thanks.

There are big differences in these engines from sample to sample, with my previous 996 (regular engine, not turbo) I was going from 15K to 15K miles without the need of a single drop of oil. With the TT I used quite a bit of oil the first 2/3K miles but now at 12.500 miles I use very little oil. Probably more than you but still on the low side, may be a quarter every 3K miles or less. I don't know what r bars are in quantity but I think that it could be from 0.5 to 1 quarter.
