Why does the 997 Turbo have a retainer in its mouth and what the heck are those little lights at the corners.
Those are some large tires on the rear and it should be quite the performer with 450hp for the base model and 500hp with the X50.

Ed,
I like the turn signals but I definitely don't like the fog lamps which is what I'm assuming you're referring to. I'm glad I got my 2004 personally.

I'd have to see it in person, but it just doesn't do anything for me right now.
Here are two pictures from a friend in Germany...

It might seem like a small thing, but the upward slant of the rear bumper attachment really takes away from the flow of the classic 991 roof line.

I like the winter scene. I miss that, living in Texas as I do.

Well, I like the ride height anyways...

Note that there is no sunroof on that Turbo. The car looks great from the side. I could get used to the fish mouth too.

What about all the aluminum-look finished plastic in the 997 interior?

Yes, that would be another tragic reminder of how these cars have fallen victim to merciless cost cutting. I am sure it would annoy the hell out of me Ed.

I thought about a 997 before I picked up the TT, but I hated the way the center console looked. Everyone says the 996 interior is cheap, but the 997's console looks like something out of a Kia.
I think the lines of the 996 interior look WAY better.

I remember all the outcry from the old school guys how the 996 interior was such a radical (and much needed, IMHO) departure from the 993 interior. So now they have what they wanted, an interior that while different from the 996 looks like it could be in any high quality import. I'm happy to see the instrument cluster was retained. 997 Board members please forgive us 996ers as we start sounding like the previous 993ers.

Yeah, Porsche had those silly dorks sit in on the focus groups to plan the next Porsches. Then the leases epired on the 993's (the only Porsches they ever owned) and the focus group alumni moved into the Lexus and Mercedes that they really wanted.

Well Spider ... I'll buy that for a dollar! I also have to agree with the previous comments about the 997 TT which is why I wanted / purchased an 04 TT.
Even without knowing the final product I knew the interior would be something that I would NOT want; it's too cheap looking and there are way too many small switches to mess with! Also, I didn't want 19 inch tires standard. I do like the ride height IF it made it to the USA (based on the pics above).

I agree about the unimpressive switches but I don't find the overall 997 interior "cheap" looking. The all leather 997 interior is of high quality, and I find the seats (and especially the sport seats) much improved over the 996 seats. Perhaps I've just become used to the 996 interior and considering that I just spent a bunch on one, I better like it.

First and foremost, I "stole" these pictures from another forum but to me they help illustrate my point.
I really don't like the general look and feel of the new interiors (when I sat in the car I felt like the dash was going to reach out and "touch someone"):
Also, here is a very interesting back-to-back comparision of the 996 door
and the 997 door (which I don't like as much)
Now, that said, everyone likes different things so if you love it more power to you and I know you're really going to enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine. Looking forward to more pics / driving impressions soon.
